The Science

Why shaped noise works better than white/rain/brown noise:

Infant cries concentrate energy at 1-5 kHz - exactly where human hearing is most sensitive (ear canal resonance at 3-4 kHz, Fletcher & Munson 1933). White noise wastes energy across all frequencies. Brown noise has less energy where you need it most.

This tool generates noise shaped to the spectral profile of infant crying, concentrating masking energy in the critical bands (Bark bands 9-18) where it competes directly with cry harmonics.

Tip: For best results on a plane, use foam earplugs (~35 dB attenuation at 1-5 kHz) underneath your noise-cancelling headphones. ANC is weak above 2 kHz - passive isolation does the heavy lifting for high-frequency sounds.
